Do you need to renew a California disabled parking permit?

In California, permanent disability parking permits must be renewed every two years, but you are not required to do anything. The DMV will automatically deliver a replacement placard to the address on file every two years (when it expires on June 30 of every odd-numbered year). Temporary placards, on the other hand, must be renewed every 180 days (six months) or on the date specified on your application by your registered medical professional.
